Privacy Policy
Last updated: January 2026
At Office Password Remover, your privacy is our top priority. This policy explains how we handle your data and why our tool is one of the most privacy-respecting options available.
Your Files Never Leave Your Device
Unlike most online tools, Office Password Remover processes your files entirely in your web browser using JavaScript. This means:
- Your files are never uploaded to our servers or any third-party server. The one exception is the optional recovery service for encrypted files, which sends only a hash of the lock, never the document itself.
- We cannot see, access, or store your file contents
- The tool works even if you disconnect from the internet after loading the page
Data We Collect
We collect minimal, anonymized data for basic usage statistics:
- Anonymized IP address: We remove the last octet (e.g., 192.168.1.100 becomes 192.168.1.0) so we cannot identify individual users
- Event type: Whether you viewed a page or successfully removed protection (we do NOT record which files)
- File type: General category only (Excel, Word, or PowerPoint) - not the filename or contents
- Browser type: Basic browser information to ensure compatibility
- Language: Which language version of the site you used
Optional Email Notifications
If you use the optional paid recovery service for an encrypted file, you may choose to enter your email address so we can notify you when the job finishes. This is entirely optional — the recovery service works without it, and nothing is collected unless you type it in yourself.
- What we collect: Only the email address you enter yourself. It is never collected automatically.
- Why: To let you know when your recovery job finishes and, only if you give separate, explicit consent, to tell you later if we become able to recover your file (for example, after an improvement to our recovery methods).
- How we protect it: Your email address is stored encrypted. It is never used to email you the recovered password, and it is never shared with any third party.
- How long we keep it: Only for as long as you remain opted in. If you only asked to be notified when the job finishes, we delete your email address once that notification has been sent. If you also opted in to be told about a future recovery, we keep it only until you unsubscribe or ask us to erase it.
- How to withdraw: Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link. You can also email us at any time at support@officepasswordremover.com to unsubscribe or have your email address erased.
Lawful basis: under UK GDPR, we process this email address on the basis of your consent, which you can withdraw at any time as described above.
No Cookies
We do not use cookies. We do not use any tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party cookies. Your browser's storage is never accessed by our tool.
No Third-Party Tracking
We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any other third-party tracking services. All analytics are handled by our own minimal logging system with anonymized data.
Data Retention
Anonymized usage logs are retained for up to 90 days for the purpose of understanding general usage patterns and improving the service. After this period, logs are automatically deleted.
Your Rights
Since we collect only anonymized data that cannot be linked to individuals, there is no personal data to access, modify, or delete. The one exception is an email address you choose to provide for recovery notifications — see “Optional Email Notifications” above for how to access, correct, or erase it. If you have concerns about privacy, you can use the tool offline after the initial page load.
